Community Outreach Members:
Lora Maynard and crew were just notified that they will be making six pallets in the next two weeks.
Five of the pallets will be for single men and one of the pallets is for a woman with five children.
The children will all have single beds.
We need 5 single mattress pads, blankets and comforters and six sets of queen size bedding items

If you can help us with these urgent bedding items  as soon as possible or by December 16, that would be great!
Lora will shop for needed items with cash donations.
  • Cash or check made payable to Lora Maynard can be dropped off at Lora's home at 9608 Freeport Drive
  • Cash can be sent through Zelle using her phone number 301-461-0850 or through Venmo or Paypal.
  • Please call or text Lora at 301-461-0850 if you have questions.
  • Gently used items can be dropped off at Lora's home at 9608 Freeport Drive.

They are also in need of the following items to have enough for six pallets or to restock:
lamps, hangers, laundry baskets, shower curtains/hooks, wastebaskets, toasters, coffee pots and toilet brushes.

Thank you for any help you can give us! We appreciate everything that you do for our charities.

Community Outreach Members,

July 27 was the drop off day for backpacks. We collected 118 backpacks so far for kids being helped by Friends of the Family!

For anyone who missed dropping off their filled backpack at the clubhouse earlier this week, you can drop off backpacks at Suzanne Spisak's house at 9704 Blackwood through Sunday, July 7.  Just leave them by the front door, if no one is at home.
We will take all remaining backpacks to Friends of the Family on Monday, July 8.

A BIG THANK YOU! to Donna Gardner and Lisa Olson who donated the backpacks that we sold for $5.
Those proceeds were used to fill more backpacks!

A BIG THANK YOU to Sherry Eason and Lisa Jones who led the project and with some dedicated helpers shopped with all donated proceeds.
Thank you to all who participated in this project!

Here are the updates:
  • Our Daily Bread (ODB) - Trish Brooks, ODB Development Director, talked about all the volunteer opportunities at ODB and how to sign up to volunteer.  Please see the attached presentation below for details.
  •  Our Daily Bread has set up a RRWC group to track our hours.
  • You can join the group at any time by clicking on the following link.
    https://volunteer.ourdailybreaddenton.org/user/joinGroup/?group=sfbL7%2Fk0xsKTf82db6q1mBEa7fFmYV4OAbsOqyinRNXmgwd5bwMJZhPYsTklnDObgw9Ecs2q1FQV%2Fm5vQK8sPQ%3D%3D

  • Filled backpacks can be dropped off at the Clubhouse parking lot on Thursday, June 27 from 9-11am.
  • A big thank you to Sherry and Lisa for leading this project!

  • We will work with FOF next year to have a later drop off date which will allow for more school supplies to be on the shelves before the end of the project. I understand that Staples in Southlake has all supplies at this time at a very reasonable price

  • Friends of the Family (FOF) Duffle Bag Project - Sandy Conwell explained the Duffle Bag Project for the Survivor Advocacy Team (SAT).  Please see the attached flyer and presentation below.  Sandy will present this project at the July Women's Club Luncheon. Dear Community Outreach Members,

As you know, we are participating in the Backpack Project for Denton County Friends of the Family.
They provide backpacks filled with school supplies for the upcoming school year to children impacted by domestic violence or sexual abuse. Community Outreach, with Women's Club help, is hoping to provide 175 backpacks this year, as the need is great.
We have a ways to go.  We will be promoting this at the June luncheon but we encourage you, as Community Outreach members, to get involved! If you are already filling a backpack, thank you!

Otherwise, you can purchase and fill your own backpack or stop by the clubhouse from 9-11am on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from June 3 through June 14 and buy a backpack for $5. You can purchase school supplies on your own for "Pre-K through 5th Grade" or "Middle/High School".  The supply list for the age category is attached to the backpack and both lists are attached below. Donations to buy school supplies are also appreciated.

Filled backpacks can be dropped off at the Clubhouse parking lot on June 27 from 9-11am.
If you have questions, please contact Sherry Eason at 225-773-5431 or Lisa Jones  505-259-5425.

We appreciate everything that you do for our charities.
Thank you!
Dianna Duncan and Suzanne Spisak

Dear Community Outreach Members,
Thank you to all who attended the meeting! If it did not fit in your schedule, we hope to see you at a future meeting. We covered a lot and appreciated the discussion about volunteerism. Here are the updates:

  • Friends of the Family (FOF) Backpack Project - Lisa Jones (Cell # 505-259-5425) and Sherry Eason (cell# 225-773-5431) are leading the project. Please contact them if you have questions.
    • You can buy a backpack for $5 from Lisa or Sherry.
    • You can purchase school supplies for "Pre-K through 5th Grade" or "Middle/High School".  The supply list for each age category is in the document "Backpack Lists" attached below.
    • Information about the backpack project will be provided at the May RRWC Luncheon and backpacks will be sold at the May and June RRWC Luncheons
    • Filled backpacks can be delivered to Lisa or Sherry at any time. The final drop off  will be on Thursday, June 27 at the Club house.  The start of school is earlier this coming year than last which requires us to shop earlier as well.

  • Our Daily Bread Welcome Home Pallets - Lora Maynard (Cell # 301-461-0850) and Sallie Wasson (Cell # 817-791-7706) are leading the project.  Please contact them if you have questions.
    • We have an immediate need for the following items: New pillows, new queen size mattress pads, small mixing bowls, lamps, lightweight end tables (like an outdoor patio table), wall art and board games.
    • Donated items can be dropped off at Lora or Sallie's house. Cash donations or checks made payable to Lora or Sallie to purchase needed items are appreciated as well.
    • We will continue to monitor the storage unit supplies to determine if a community wide donation drive for all items is needed in the future.
  • Our Daily Bread Women's League Luncheon on Thursday, May 23 -
  • A separate email invitation will be sent with all the details.

  • Friends of the Family (FOF) Duffle Bag Project -  Please see the attached FAQ document about this project. Sandy Conwell (Cell # 972-989-3801) is leading this project. Please contact her if you have questions.
    • The Survivor Advocacy Team (SAT) carries a duffle bag with toiletries, a change of clothes, a stuffed animal and a throw blanket to give to a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault in a hospital or police station or wherever they meet them. Currently they have 40+ SAT volunteers who need duffle bags and supplies.
    • We are asking for a $10 donation to purchase duffle bags to give to FOF now.  A cash donation or check made payable to Sandy Conwell can be dropped off at her home at 10601 Countryside Drive.  Any additional funds left over after purchasing the duffle bags will be given to FOF to buy any duffle bag supplies needed now.
    • We will kick off a donation drive in July / August for the entire RRWC membership to participate in the duffle bag project.

  • We encourage you to volunteer.  Our charities can use your help! - Several ladies in attendance talked about their volunteer experience at Our Daily Bread and Denton Community Food Center. We volunteer with our friends and we enjoy camaraderie with other volunteers we meet on our shifts.

    • Our Daily Bread has set up a RRWC group to track our hours. You can join the group by clicking on the following link.

      • When you sign in for your shift, you can select the RRWC group from a drop down box.
    • If you have questions about volunteering, please call or text Dianna or Suzanne. We will continue to promote opportunities to Community Outreach members to volunteer in small groups with charities in the Denton area.

Thank you for all that you do for our charities. Please let us know if you have any comments or questions.
