Happy Holidays to All!
Hope you’re enjoying this beautiful holiday season. As we wind down the year, I want to share the following update...
Thirty-five of our committee members recently participated in the Adopt-a-Family program with Friends of the Family. We raised $1,700 which allowed us to adopt 21 children and three mothers. Monday evening we had a Show & Tell party at my house where our shopping teams showed off the wonderful gifts they bought. We’ll deliver the gifts to Friends of the Family on Monday. If you have a SUV and are available, please let me know. Thank you to all who participated in this very worthwhile endeavor as we help make this a special Christmas for these children and their moms.
Also, if you are interested and available to help FoftheF over the next couple of weeks as they coordinate all the gift donations coming in, much like we did with the school supplies in August, please let me know and we’ll organize a time to go together.
We have another volunteer opportunity this year when we prepare dinner for the 91 clients of Monsignor King Outreach Center on Monday December 30th. Joyce Frey has volunteered to head up this project. Please contact Joyce directly to if you’re available to help prepare, deliver and/or serve this dinner.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, January 8 in the Legacy Room from 2:00-3:30, where we will discuss upcoming tours of our charities and volunteer opportunities in the new year.
I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank all of you for participating in our various volunteer activities this year. It has been a real pleasure for me to get to know all of you and work side-by-side to help our fellow Denton citizens in need.
I hope you have a joyous holiday season. See you in the new year!

Our special guest was Kaitlin Barbati, case manager for both

Now that we’ve volunteered at both organizations,
I thought it would give even more meaning to what we’re doing if we better understood a sampling of clients’ back stories.

Friends of the Family Business Casual Clothing Drive
Forty two (42) very generous women donated 608 pieces of clothing, 30 scarves, 16 pairs of shoes, 12 purses, 7 belts and dozens of jewelry pieces during our Business Casual Clothing Drive last week. Their career closet is now filled with a nice variety of fashionable slacks, blouses, sweaters, jackets, skirts and dresses, plus the shoes and accessories. Per their request, half the clothing is size 12+,
with the remainder being Mediums and Smalls.
With the closet at F of the F filled to capacity, I held back 60 pieces (in my guest closet) to use as replenishment over the next couple of months (or until my next company comes!). The remaining items were taken to their resale store on Dallas Drive, Upscale Resale. The women clients of FoftheF have access to the career closet for free and receive a monthly $25 voucher for their store.
Thank you to all who donated and a very special thank you to all who worked with me last week accepting donations at my house and delivering items to FoftheF: Joyce Frey, Gayle Coe, Celia Hall, Sandy Conwell, Karen Brannon, Lynne Moore, Sally Hampton, Linda Svoboda, Donna Gardner, Lana Aberbach, Angela Waters, Janice Brown, Barbara Geiser, Peggy Crandell and Jan Utzman.
The staff of Friends of the Family were very appreciative as we took the last load this morning. I’m sure the women recipients will be, as well, once they see their new selections.
My house looks empty compared to housing four rolling garment racks in the great room last week, but I’m not complaining!!

Friends of the Family
Back to School can be a time of great excitement and it can also be a time of apprehension, particularly for those children whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence.
The generous women of the Robson Ranch Women’s Club came through again this year to help these children associated with Friends of the Family be ready for that first day of school.
At Monday’s luncheon we gathered over 100 backpacks, thousands of various pieces
of school supplies and $675. Beyond the children who are currently staying at the shelter with their mothers, these school supplies will also help the hundreds more whose mothers
are receiving counseling services from Friends of the Family.
And then, Tuesday afternoon 16 members of the RRWC Community Relations Committee
went to the administrative offices of FoftheF to organize our school supply donations into
age-appropriate backpacks, ready to hand to the students.
When we walked in the door, it was a bit overwhelming!
But, with a talented group of 16 highly organized and motivated women,
we tackled the task with gusto! As always, the staff at FoftheF
was very grateful for the donations and for us coming to their office
to put the backpacks together.
A special thanks to Linda Svoboda, Lana Aberbach, Lisa Olson, Celia Hall, Karen Brannon, Julie Eaton, Charlotte Caruso, Diane Eoff, Liz Smith, Lynn Moore, and our five new members, Dee Dee Karabetsos, Dee Wallace, Linda Provenzano, Janice Brown and Barb Geiser.

Once again the women of Robson Ranch made good use of Sprouts paper bags! This time it was the Community Relations Committee of the Robson Ranch Women’s Club who prepared over 50 activity kits for the children living in the Denton County Friends of the Family domestic violence shelter with their mothers. With school out, to keep the kids stimulated and entertained, we were asked to provide books, puzzles, games and crafts for the children. Members of the Women’s Club donated items at our monthly meeting Monday and members of the Community Relations Committee created the activity kits by age group and gender today.
Thanks to all who participated, including a special thanks to Ron Godec, General Manager of Sprouts Denton who gave us the bags to use for our larger items.
Nine of us took all the donations from
Monday’s luncheon and created over 50 children’s activity kits at Friends of the Family!
They were thrilled with the generosity of our women and the end result!
We look forward to hearing about the children’s reactions.
Thanks to Gayle Coe, Theresa Peoples, Sandy Conwell, Lana Aberbach, Honee Berlin,
Linda Svoboda, Donna Gardner and our newest member, Liz Smith.

A Day At Our Daily Bread-April 11, 2019
Thank you, LaDonna, for organizing our day at Our Daily Bread today.
And thank you Lisa Olson, Mary Lou Renckley, Honee Berlin, Angela Waters and Lee Murphy,
who went with us for a very enlightening, rewarding, fun and yes, a bit tiring day.
We chopped, we prepared food, we served, we cleaned up and we did dishes.....
for a very appreciative 100 clients of Our Daily Bread.
We did all this under the guidance of an amazing woman, Chef Liz and her
very capable assistant, Ashley. We now see why ODB again received a score of 100 from the health department. Chef Liz had us washing our hands and putting on new gloves with every change of task. We also had the opportunity to work with some talented
young students from UNT. All and all, it was an awesome day and
when you have the opportunity to participate in the future, please do so.
Sandy Conwell will be organizing our next group outing to ODB in May, so stay tuned.
If you’d like to volunteer on your own as Julie Eaton and Charlotte Caruso are doing,
simply visit their website and schedule yourself.
Candance, please pass our appreciation on to Chef Liz and Ashley.
