ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thanks to all that attended the meeting! Our next meeting will be March 9 at 10:00am at the Clubhouse.
UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
- Our Daily Bread volunteer sign-up: 4 people signed up for the afternoon of March 19, and 2 people signed up for the afternoon of April 9. These workshifts are 1:30 – 4:30 pm. Volunteers must complete the sign up on the ODB website to participate.
- Journey to Dream volunteer activity: Meeting attendees agreed that they would be willing to help with an upcoming inventory day at JTD. We will set a date with JTD staff and provide that information at the next meeting.
- Denton Community Food Center volunteer activity: DCFC had been considering the idea of offering evening food distribution once or twice a month. Their normal distribution times are Monday and Wednesday mornings, and those who hold daytime jobs cannot come for food assistance at those times. The committee members present indicated that they would be willing to volunteer in order to make this opportunity viable for DCFC. Spouses would also be welcome to participate, as men are needed for lifting heavy boxes. More to come on this.
- Our Daily Bread Welcome Home Pallet Project Report: Sherry Eason and Donna Gardner, co-chairs, discussed activity they have had recently. This project has provided home items for 212 clients to date. They do still need additional help on Wednesdays, and others on the committee responded. They also mentioned the need for mattresses. It was mentioned that the RR Lions Club builds bed frames and asks for donations for mattresses. Sherry and Donna will contact the Lions Club and pursue the possibility of working more closely together on this need.
- Our Daily Bread Love Your Neighbor Week. The QR code for cleaning items was attached to the meeting packets. Chris Anderson said that she really likes our use of QR codes, but she would like to try to capture a photo of things given for this project (and others).
- Denton County Friends of the Family Duffle Bag Project. As part of awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April) Denton County Friends of the Family asks RR Women’s Club to help provide items used in duffle bags given to women and children that have experienced a sexual assault. The committee will work with DCFOF to provide a QR code to order items on Amazon, as well as a list of items needed, and provide these to the Women’s Club members at the March and April meetings.
- Denton Community Food Center Snack Pack Project. Carolyn Kelly will again chair this project. We will put together Snack Packs for children to have during the summer break. We plan to provide a QR code for Amazon purchases, a list of items for those that would prefer to purchase things elsewhere, and an envelope for donations to be included in the table folders for the March and April luncheons. We plan to assemble the Snack Packs on May 28th, 10 am – 1 pm, at the Clubhouse.
- Denton County Friends of the Family Backpack Project. This project provides back to school supplies for 125+ elementary and middle school children served by DCFOF. Lisa Olsen reminded us that the backpacks must be ordered in March and the packets of school supplies must be ordered by June 1. We are looking for a chair for this project. If you are interested, please contact Gaby Vorst ([email protected]) or Kim Snyder ([email protected]).

- At the March Women’s Club Luncheon, Journey to Dream will be our Share the Blessings charity. The money they receive will be used to help the high school students in the Dream Initiative program who suffer from food insecurity.
- Plans are underway for a third Women’s Club fundraiser for 2026. This event will benefit Children’s Advocacy Center of North Texas. Lorie Stockton announced the fundraiser will be a Bocce Tournament. The date isn’t confirmed, but will be in the fall.
- Denton Community Food Center has a need for a volunteer who knows sign language.
- The committee is looking for a chair (or co-chairs) for the 2026 Adopt a Family project.

Good Day, Community Outreach Members.
After speaking with our charities, it looks like Our Daily Bread has the best options for volunteering (outside of the Pallet Program). Kim and I were thinking we could reserve a Wednesday and Thursday one week each month to provide volunteers to ODB. Breakfast and dinners are the best options as there are already regular volunteers for most of the lunch activities.
The shift times are 6:30am-9am (meal prep and serving breakfast ) for 3-4 volunteers
or
1:30-4:30 for dinner meal prep (max 3 people)
or 4:00pm to 7:00 pm for dinner service (max 4 people)
We would like to gauge your interest in these options. Please indicate whether Wednesday or Thursday would work and what your preference on shifts would be. Please respond to this email by Wednesday so we can have a plan in place by the Monday Feb 9th meeting
Updating on volunteer opportunities with other charities, for Journey to Dream and The Children's Advocacy Center, the oppprtunities are limited more to participating in their scheduled fundraisers or we may be able to create a small project for them 1-2 times during the year. This is because of the sensitive nature of their work.
For Denton County Food Center, we can work with the volunteer coordinator to get either a Monday or Wednesday (5 people max each day) group volunteer day. a couple times per year. Kim and I are meeting with them this coming Thursday to learn more.
Please respond to this email by Wednesday so we can have a plan in place by the Monday Feb 9th meeting
Thanks for your commitment
